I cannot express how it makes me feel to see so many people come out for our annual anniversary celebration. Not that every year is not a great one, but Year 5 was over the top! Of course we all wished that the National Game could have continued but after really looking at the big picture, I realized that God has control and everything happens for a reason. I keep asking myself where do I find the time to balance work, family, bmorehoops and all the other stuff i have under my plate and when I looked around and saw people from every program, almost every media outlet, high school coaches and many more, I said to myself these are the people that make me go into what my husband labels as BMOREZILLA MODE! I stress, I cry, I yell, I scream, I think nothings going to go right, and of course its all his fault! But just like years 1, 2, 3, and 4…it all works out.

To the BMOREHOOPS committee thanks…your tireless efforts do not go unnoticed, I do appreciate the round tables battles we have to make this happen. Scottie our committee chairman, thanks for keeping me on task and and making things run smoothly and efficiently, Eyes & Ears…thanks for being the glue that pulls us all together and understand what this event and BMOREHOOPS is all about, Ken your expertise on youth basketball keeps us in the loop and we appreciate all the insight you bring. Tarik, your controversary keeps us in meetings much longer than we want to be, but you are definitely the member who lays the knowledge down about the top players, to our new committee members Nick Myles & Mike McCormick…thanks for a great job…thanks for stepping in and bringing your knowledge to the table. And to Troy Franklin world’s best Coordinator for Media…you are nothing less than the best…the commentating, the media blast, the hype…need i say more…look out ABC, CBS, and maybe NBC there’s one sportsbroadcaster missing…you better gettem’ now. Like I always say in my weekly update emails…I LOVE YOU GUYS!

To the Department of Recreation & Parks thanks for providing us with the facility and staff to make it work; a special thanks to Sherron Bogues for making sure the gates where open and Mark Karcher for listening to me vent when I thought I was going to have to ask you and Sister to open up St. Frances for me (LOL). To Councilman Jack Young…your al-lday presence speaks volumes!!! Although I’m not a citizen of your district, they should be proud to have such a person like yourself representing them…your dedication is evident!

To Brandon & Steve (BMORE’S BEST OFFICIALS) who stepped up to the plate at the last hour and put together a fantastic officiating crew for not ONE RED CENT my heartfelt thanks and appreciation. You will never know how much that meant to me…You guys are definitely Champs! To our volunteers Julie, Coach Ty, Coach Wells, the grill man (forgive me…this gentlemen just stepped right in and said i’m running the grill this year…i didn’t even know his name LOL), the neighborhood kids who helped clean up, and anyone else who helped keep things running smoothly.

To my sponsors…you help make it happen every year! You sowed a seed into the BMOREHOOPS vision and for that alone I am greatfully thankful. Jeff, Tremayne & DTLR you’re the best!…I can’t forget Bey who I call every year about a sponsorship and you know he’s so busy we never connect and just like every year he shows up to see the game with sponsorship $ in hand to pay for last minute expenses…good lookin’. And Marcel of APN Homebuyers…your midnight donation check helped up really pull it all together…keep selling those houses…we are going to get that big payday we keep talking about…you and i both share that giving spirit and i know God has a major plan in store for us…

To the players….this is all for you! Thanks for showing up year after year if it wasn’t for you and your God given talents…there would be NO BMOREHOOPS! You guys and girls are to be commended! Speaking of girls…WHAT A GAME! Thanks Coach Al Schell for putting together BMOREHOOPS BEST GIRLS GAME…Great Coach’s Great Teams…Awesome Game. You know you are now the official Director of Operations for BMOERHOOPS GIRLS LOL!

And finally to my family and the few people that I can really call friends , thanks for being so supportive. To my aunt Serrina…words can’t express the admiration I have for your unconditional love, thanks for your support and advice…it’s made me the woman I am today. To my son Corey…have a wonderful last year at Dunbar in my book…you will always be my “Jordan 4th Quarter In 92″! I always tell you that the rankings and media don’t dictate the fact that you are a talented young man…trust and believe WHEN IT’S YOUR TIME..YOU WILL SHINE! Mommy Loves You! To my other son Lil’ Harold, aka Poodie who was dragged into this BMOREHOOPS world when I met my husband, you didn’t waste anytime getting to know people and travelling with me back and forth to gyms and whinning about when we are going home LOL your presence means a lot to me Shawnie Loves You! And to the man that God sent me…I can never express my love and admiration for the world’s best husband…you are definitely My Rock…XXXOOO!
Rest In Peace Grandama Sarah ~ You’re Light Will Forever Shine!

Corey Spence , a 5'8' point guard from Dunbar High School in Baltimore , MD , fills those shoes and then some.

"I love the game , since four years old" noted Spence who's Poet HS team finished 16-6 last season in the Baltimore City League. Corey knows hard work pays off , I guess the 20 pushups during commercials has paid off , as the 170lb point guard bulldozed his way to camp MVP of the Capitol Hoops Top 100 Camp earlier this month.
“I love the game , since four years old” noted Spence who’s Poet HS team finished 16-6 last season in the Baltimore City League. Corey knows hard work pays off , I guess the 20 pushups during commercials has paid off , as the 170lb point guard bulldozed his way to camp MVP of the Capitol Hoops Top 100 Camp earlier this month. Corey posted the highest points per game average for the senior class reeling in 12.2ppg in just 14 minutes per game.

Or maybe the off-season hill running explains why there are few guards in the DMV that can stay in front him. But better yet , you can bet that above all that it’s the fire that the DC Assault Blue point guard possesses. When Corey takes the floor , you are guaranteed energy , and at the point guard position it’s something that is a must have for Division I basketball. “I just want to be the first one in my family to get a basketball scholarship” explained Spence via cell phone late Wednesday evening.

Courtesy of capitolhoops.com

And Spence is drawing some interest from UNC Wilmington , UNC-Greensboro , Penn St , Temple , Niargra Elon , Navy , Jacksonville St , New Orleans and Morgan St. However none has offered as of yet.

That is the fuel that keeps this youngster going. With all of the re-classifying talk as of late , it’s only fitting to point out that Corey is only 16 and and will graduate early.

Besides playing hoops , Spence is focusing his senior year on academic preparation , an attitude that is shared by Shawntra O’Neal (BmoreHoops.com CEO) , who to Corey is just Mom. “She’s always been there for me” , noted Spence , who has attended Dunbar since his freshman year and has never been more driven to compete for a league championship.

And regardless of the team’s championship endeavors , Spence is poised to have a breakout season. The lefty is quick , can finish in the paint and has improved on his outside shooting. Look for an offer or two to come in the near future , but even then don’t look for the fire to be quenched anytime soon.
